My body image journey started unconsciously when I was 6/7 years old when I decided I wanted to try auditioning for shows and movies. Consciously it started when I was 10 years old and realized I had the smallest chest in my group of friends. It was then that I began comparing my body to my friends and finding what I thought were problems with my body. I spent 13 years hating every single part of my body and in turn hating myself. It took me gaining 80lbs, being sick, hating my body and then losing 80lbs, still being sick and still hating my body to finally realize that my body was never the problem! In 2021 is when I made a lot of changes from the mindset that my body wasn't the problem. After spending years weighing myself 5+ times a day, I got rid of my scale and now have not weighed myself in 2.5 years. I stopped setting a goal weight because I realized I was basing it off of a time when I was 'skinny' but still hated my body. That then led to me eliminating my goal of weight loss! Crazy, I know! But I realized that having that goal wasn't getting me where I wanted to go health wise and it wasn't getting me to how I wanted to feel body image wise. I then moved on to eliminating dieting/restricting from my life and started learning to listen to my body. I have found a natural way of eating that leaves me feeling good mentally AND physically. I stopped over exercising and started focusing on doing movement I really enjoy. I challenge my body while also listening to it. My journey to get here has been long with many ups and downs but I am now at a place where I can truly say that I love my body and I want to help other women heal their body image too! Because your body is not the problem either!
I work with the understanding that your body is not the problem and is always on your team. From there I can help you listen to what your body has been trying to tell and ask of you. We will work together to become aware of the thoughts that are leading you to feel like your body is the problem, analyze them and replace them with new thoughts that will help you feel the way you want to feel towards your body. Whether that's neutral, loving or even just grateful. The cool thing is that you don't have to love how your body looks in order to have a positive body image. The point though is that you also don't have to hate it.
